School Holidays

St. John’s C of E (Aided) Primary School Holiday Dates

Leave of Absence

The Government has amended regulations for taking holidays in term time.  These new regulations come into effect from September 2024.

Head teachers are unable to grant leave of absence during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances. Generally. a need or desire for a holiday or other absence for the purpose of leisure and recreation would not constitute an exceptional circumstance.

A fixed penalty notice may be issued if there are 5 days of absence in a period of ten school weeks. Proof of illness may be requested and fines may still be administered if it is evident a holiday has taken place.  The cost of a fine is £80 per parent, per child.  Repeated fines will not be an option and parents/carers who regularly take their children out of school for term time holidays may face tougher measures such as a parenting order or prosecution.

We share our school attendance data directly with the DfE which the Local Authority has access to and can monitor remotely. It is important that parents/carers notify the school in advance of any planned holidays.  A leave of absence form can be downloaded and given to the school office.

Please contact the school if you wish to discuss this with the Headteacher.
