Public bodies, including local-authority-maintained schools, are covered by the public sector equality duty in the Equality Act 2010.
As part of our duties we publish:
- an Equalities Information profile of our school based upon the protected characteristics of the Equality Act 2010 – this is updated and published every year
- our school’s Equality Action Plan (Objectives) – these are reviewed annually and updated at least once every 4 years
- for further information please view or download our Single Equalities Policy and Equality Action Plan in the School Policies section of our website.
Diversity and Inclusion
Our school aims to create a positive, stimulating and happy environment through which all members of the school community can develop their skills and thrive. The school is committed to ensuring that all members of the community are treated fairly, justly and with respect in every aspect of school life.
The C of E Valuing All God’s Children document highlights the importance of welcoming and celebrating diversity. At St John’s, we live by the saying ‘Warm Fires and Open Doors’, where we welcome everyone, ensuring that our ‘fires’ are equally warm and our doors are always open to every person in our school community.
We also strongly believe in the words of the Archbishop of Canterbury:
“There are no problems here, there are simply people.”
Every person in our school is intentionally welcomed, valued and accepted for who they are as God’s children. We celebrate diversity and pride ourselves on cultivating an environment in which all our staff members, pupils, governors, parents and stakeholders have the freedom to be themselves without judgement or discrimination. You are expected to adhere to these values at all times.
