When I am not teaching, I am at the gym, cycling or spending time with friends and family.

Miss French – Enhanced Teaching Assistant
Hi, my name is Miss French and I am an enhanced teaching Assistant in Year 2. I have been a Teaching Assistant for 10 years and have worked across primary school from Nursery up to Year 6. When I am not in school I enjoy baking and going for walks with my friends and family to explore new places.
Year 2 Important Information
Here is some useful information you will need to know for your child in Year 2 this year:
Homework
Monday – Children are given a new spelling list every Monday to practice at home ready for their test on a Friday.
Reading
Please can we ask for children to bring their reading packet to school on a Friday only ready for ‘packet swap day’. Children will be sent a reading book home every Friday. At school we will listen to your child read. However, please could you listen to your child read at home at least three times per week.
In school children take part in phonics lessons two times a day. In the second half of Autumn term your child will be sitting a compulsory phonics screening check.
We follow the scheme ‘Phonics Bug’. As part of this scheme children can also gain access to ‘Active Learn’. On ‘Active Learn’ children can read their reading books and play a range of phonic games all while winning gold coins. These gold coins then allow children to play games and collect stickers.
P.E. Lessons
Physical Education is a compulsory part of a school’s curriculum. This year in P.E. children will have the opportunity to practice multi skills such as throwing and catching. We will also take part in fitness, dance, gymnastics and tennis lessons (to name a few!).
In Year 2 our P.E days are Tuesday and Thursdays. On these days please could we ask pupils to come to school dressed in their P.E. kits. Their P.E kits consist of:
Plain black t-shirt.
Black shorts, leggings or joggers.
Trainers or plimsolls.
Children can also wear their red school jumper on top of their black t-shirt. This will be removed for the lesson so will need to be named.
Attendance & Punctuality
At St. John’s Primary School, we are committed to providing pupils with the best educational opportunities available. To enable pupils to benefit from these opportunities it is essential that parents ensure their regular attendance.
The impact on children’s education through poor attendance, resulting in lost learning, is huge! Our children have already had their education disrupted due to the pandemic and every minute in school counts! To prevent anyone falling behind with their learning, we need to continue to work together to make sure that your child is in school and on time every day. We encourage all of our children to be at school for 8.40am for a prompt start to the day.
