Year 1 and Year 2 enjoyed a visit from our local fire brigade. They talked to the children about keeping safe and what to do in an emergency. The children got to see all of their equipment and even try some out for themselves.
Science
This half term Year 2 have been investigating plants. we have planted seeds and are observing the growth of the plants. The children have been really good at making sure their plants have water and sunlight.
Hardwick Park
On Friday 9th June the Year 2 children really enjoyed their visit to Hardwick Park for a PE event organised by Sedgefield SSP. They were involved in an orienteering activity, team building and even took part in a bug trail. All of the children had great fun!
Spring
Gymnastics
Some children from Year 2 were chosen to take part in a Gymnastics Key Steps Festival. The children performed individual floor routines and were scored by judges. We has two fantastic mixed teams of boys and girls. Well done gymnastics!
Adam Bushnell
During the Spring Term, Year 2 worked with the children’s author Adam Bushnell. In the session Adam took the ‘children to space’ and let their imaginations go wild! The children produced setting descriptions and then went on to produce amazing Space Adventures Stories.
Autumn
Judo
During the Autumn Term the whole school enjoyed a visit from Destination Judo. In Year 2 we all enjoyed putting on a Judo jacket and practising some Judo skills.
Remembrance Day
As part of our topic on Remembrance Day, Year 2 had a visit from the DLI museum. Our visitors brought in lots of artefacts that the children got to handle very carefully. We also went outside to do ‘drill’. The children had a wonderful day.
Mama Panya’s Pancakes
In English, we have been reading Mama Panya’s Pancakes as part of our Kenya topic. We took this opportunity to make pancakes as part of our DT topic and then we wrote some instructions. The children’s favourite part was definitely eating pancakes!
